OBS Part Two =D

okay, i was suppose to be at tuition now, but apprently i overslept then due to the rain i got lazy and so here i am sitting in front of my com and ponned my tuition =/ oh man, i feel guilty, shall find a free day to make up

anyway, as said earilier i shall continue on my OBS journey from yesterday, moving on into...

DAY 2:

just a recap, on day one we went kayaking then pitched out bashirs (lousy tents) then went to sleep, then when we woke up, it's day 2! where the "fun"'s going to begin x)

okay, so this was the plan for day 2, that we were suppose to have a sea expedition around the ENTIRE pulau ubin island, in a bloody rowboat, while our very nice instructors took their own very speedy motorboat and followed us. so early in the morning at 5.55 we woke up, then had our morning "PT", or sort of anyway, played a lot of pointless and lame but also quite interesting games to "warm up", then did some basic exercises, such as push ups, squats, and so on.

ehh, let me go into detail about this very silly game which we played, it's like, you go around play sissors paper stone with some other guy, BUT, before doing that, you'll have to go "jump jump left *clap*, jump jump right *clap*, jump jump back *clap*, and jump jump front *clap*" guess where you'll end up after those jumping? yes, back to your original position! x) okay, so you've done those preparation, now you'll finally get to do your sissors paper stone, then yay, someone wins and someone else loses, so basically, the loser will join the back of the winner, and link up by putting both his hands on that dudes shoulders, then go around finding others to sissors paper stone. so the game goes on and on, until everyone is joint up into two seperate LONG queues for some reason. then it comes it finale, the head of the two long queues will sissors paper stone, then loser queue will have to do star jumps x) and end of the game =) ehh before that, i have a small coffession to make, i was actually with the loser group, but when it was time for the star jumps, i sneaked into the winner group and slacked xp dun think anyone knows about this yet, haha x)

okay, that was a little sidetrack, going back into the main programmes of the day, after the PT, we went for breakfast, then went down to the jetty to prepare our rowboat and get ready to set off x) well, due to some unforseen circumstances, we were SUPPOSE to set off at 8 am, however it was delayed until about 9+ until we finally get to move off into the water. the delays were mainly caused by some problems with fixing the raddle, coz the thing doesnt fit into the knot, and also that the rowboats were unprepared to set off when we got there, so yeah. oh yah, and before i forget, we suffered i think three casualties already, correct me if i'm wrong, lawis got stung by a USC (unknown swimming creature), then benjamin not sure what was wrong with him =/ and lastly yanwei got smacked in between the eyes by a paddle the day before when we were kayaking. wait wait, and one more, chuanhong (fish), had diahorea, and skipped the thing too. so that means, we were man down to 12 instead of 16, and by right, you need at least 7 people in the rowboat for it to function probably, coz 6 man rowing, and one guy at the raddle to steer the boat in the correct direction. so unfourtunately, we set off with one guy less, therefore, for a long long time in the start we were last all the way =/

so we rowed and rowed nonstop, then due to our short of manpower, we lagged a lot. so eugeen (who now became my good friend) joined our boat coz we were kinda slow and delayed everyone down (coz we have to move in together), and from there, our speed varied a lot. for about 50% of the time, we were last place, 30% of the time we were in the middle range, and actually for 20% of the time, we were leading the entire fleet of rowboats x) why? it's due to the fact that, during the 50% of the time, most of us were still trying to figure out how to row efficiently, OR we were too tired then everyone's resting, OR i was on the raddle so wasnt powering the rowboat, OR this guy called Dat was sleeping (cant blame him lah, it had really been a tiring time, the cool part was that, he was still doing the rowing while he was sleeping!", OR there was less than 6 people rowing together (some were resting due to the tiredness), so yeah, we were last. then the times when we were in the middle was mainly due to that we maintained our usual pace, but another one or two boats were slacking/resting, and therefore they were behind us. then the glorious moments when we were leading was mainly due to the united effort of all six of us rowing at the same beat, and going all out, that was when our boat was really really fast =)

okay, that's mostly about us, now lets talk about the weather. IT WAS FREAKING POURING more than half of the time, the other half was just raining =/ so yeah, all of us got wet, the worse part was that our hands all got winkled, and it was indeed HARD to row that way, painful man...

now about the food, the rations were seperated into two portion to be carried in two plastic bags, coz we had to settle our own lunch, dinner and breakfast for the next day, so we had one plastic bag in our boat, and the other was in dixon's boat, who was the second boat from our watch (and amazingly, their boat was first 50% of the time, even though they had only 6 people throughout, must be due to dixon's brute strength, heard that he rowed two paddles at the same time x) ) okay now back to the food, basically, there was some screwed up miscommunication, whatever was on our boat, was meant for breakfast the next day, then OUR lunch was on dixon's boat, and worst of all, dixon boat was first when we were last, so can imagine how we starved... =( anyway, due to the unbearable amount of hunger, we ate a tiny portion of our breakfast (one piece of bread each), then we screamed at dixon's boat to give us lunch, so in the end things worked out and we managed and get our lunch, which was oreo and some fruit bar, and you know what, at that point of time, the oreo tasted like the best thing on earth x)

so basically after lunch, we rowed on and on, it's quite boring actually, due to the repeatitive action of rowing again and again. so anyway, another interesting thing that happened was that, due to the lack on toliets in a rowboat, all of us who needed to pee peed in the sea. this was how it works, once in a while there'll be people who needed to do that, so we stopped the boat, then he jumps into the water, then he release it in the open ocean (so now you know why the ocean taste salty? x) just joking xp ), then the hard part come when he needs to get up. due to the long hours of rowing, our arms were like totally powerless, so it was almost impossible for us to get up by ourselves (eugeen did it once in the earlier period, but after that we had to pull him up the second time, i needed to pulled up twice xp ), then hongbo got stuck and no one in his boat could pull him up xp so our boat went our and two boats assissted and finally, got him up x)

that was about all in the rowboat, we finally reached land, in the process that was a part where we managed to get dixon's boat turned in a circle with their back (sturn or something) of the boat to our front of th eboat, ehh, shall not go into the details xp then we finally arrived at camp two, it was about 4 or 5, cant really remember, basically it's a more than 8 hrs rowing journey, quite fun lah when you think about it now x)

so we arrived at campsite, what's next? dinner! and the fun (or not fun) part was that, we had too cook ourselves xp well, luckily for our watch, somehow we've got instand noodles, while the other watch got rice =/ so yeah, instant noodles were much easier to cook, so we set up a stove with rocks and lighted up fire staters then put solid fuel tablets, and finally, we cooked our food! me together with a few other guys were among the first to get our food, it was actually not bad, just tasted like normal instand noodle, then ate it together with canned food (there was curry chicken and mushroom), basically it was quite a nice and filling dinner lah, quite suprising to me though, at first thought it's going to be some burnt crap =/

okay basically after that we showered in this crappy place which can somewhat be considered as a toliet/shower room that was smelly coz someone puked inside... so yeah, then we set up our bashirs (tents), and again i think it's jeremy and the scouts who did most of the work, coz the rest cant really do it =/ so yeah, lots of thanks to them x) however it rained again in the middle of the night, and we moved into shelter once again =/ this time it was at like 2 am and our sleep was interrupted as usual... then we finally slept and it moves on into day 3 =)

okay that's the end of the day 2 recount, now let me state some interesting facts.

firstly : THOMAS CHUACH SNORES! he really does snore man! that's something you'll never know unless you sleep beside him, and i didn't know that even though i knew him for two years already, until this obs (see! the importance of obs, it really makes you know each other)

secondly: when i told thomas he snores he denied it, coz i first realised he snored on day 1 night, then i told him on day 2, then he denied it, until he snored again on day 2 night, AND dixon was there too, we slept in the position like : thomas, me, dixon, so dixon was my witness that thomas snored, then both of us told him on day 3, he was shocked =)

thirdly: it's a bad idea to sleep inbetween thomas and dixon, you'll hear an orcheastra, one snore on the left followed by the other louder one on the right, then got difference rythm and beat, which can keep you wild awake when you want to sleep ^^ (ehh, no offence to be both of you, it was quite funny lah xp)

fourthly: once you row a rowboat at a certain speed, try not to stop, coz once you do, it's more harder to start again, on the other hand it's much easier to just keep rowing at a constant pace, basically the faster you row the easier it is to row =) (tips for next batch of obs ppls, if you're rowing boat of course)

that's about all bah, to end it off, i shall put another significant quote which i've remembered the most during the obs trip

"thank you for applause" -phil ho =D
