RI seriously needs better teachers

alright, this is so unacceptable, apparently i got a F grade for this English blog. F is like, the lowest in class =.=

WARNING: text below are personal opinions, dont not view it if you're likely to get pissed off after reading

and when i asked the teacher (whom i shall not be bothered to name), she claims that i have GOOD content, but the TONE was wrong, and it was too narrow-minded =.= (this is refering to the play safe -sex- article, go read it if you want) and she says my tone was wrong and too aggressive, and very one-sided and simply trying to convince others that my opinion is right.

i mean, isnt that the point of writing? to put my point across to others? and basically what she is telling me by giving me a F is that, "because i do not agree with your opinion and your style of writing and i do not like your tone, therefore i'm going to fail you."

firstly, lets set the context right, it was a PERSONAL BLOG REFLECTION. since it is personal, it's up to me to write it to my personal style and preference right? simply because i disagree with the Singapore government's policy and gave my personal politically incorrect opinion, it is considered as a failure for the assignment? what rubbish =.= simply because she didn't like the way i write, the stuff i wrote, then she fail me for that, i highly doubt that it is justified.

secondly, the rubrics. in the rubrics, the areas that we're marked under are interpretation, blah blah blah, and there was NOWHERE that says "you're expected to write this reflection with a all nice kind and goody tone which will please the teacher and anyone who reads it, and it must be POLITICALLY CORRECT" this brings me back to my first point, the assignment wants us to give our personal thoughts and personal reflections, and yet, when i do that, i'm marked down for stating what i THINK in the way i think. does that actually make sense to anyone? the school might as well gives us a piece of work and just simply put there in the heading stating that we're suppose to give the RIGHT ANSWER THAT TEACHERS WANT, why the hell did they bother with the personal touch anyway? =.= at least that way i'll know by GIVING FALSE UNTRUE opinions of mine i'll be able to score better =/

thirdly, she talks about respect. she claims that i should respect her opinion due to the fact that she's a teacher and she is in the position of authority and to grade and mark my work, so i'll have to accept her marks. if she wants respect, she should question herself in the first place whether she deserves that respect. what we've learnt from being in the position of leadership, is that you do not gain respect because you're in the POSITION of authority, but you gain respect through your actions and words. she claims that she respects my opinion, yet when i speaks, she goes and interrupt me and says "shhhhhhh, your tone is wrong" =.= like whatever man, if she means what she says, shouldnt she just listen? she wants me to listen to her, yet she dont want to listen to me simply because IN HER OPINION she dislikes my tone =.= SO in the similar way, IN MY OPINION, i do not think she deserves my respect and i do not like her tone either, so does it mean that halfway through the lesson i should go "shhhhhh mdm, change your tone then continue teaching" or i should just simply refuse to listen and just sleep in her class??? that's the way it is according to her theory. and since that's how things works UNDER HER AUTHORITY, and since she is OF HIGHER AUTHORITY, then i've got nothing to say but to simply remain silent and accept my unjustified failure of the English blog and kiss my 3.80 goodbye =/

okay that's about all regarding that issue

had training today, played game against RJ1s, wasnt that bad, i scored a try x)

and game against saints this thurs, if we lose, we're out, so basically, we're going to win, yeah, that's about it =)

Reflection

http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/02/27/un.climate.plan.ap/index.html

From this article, it can be seen that the environmental issue of global warming is already too big to ignore, and measures has been taken to highlight this.

I think that more agreements like the Kyoto Protocol should be implemented. The Kyoto protocol limits the amount of greenhouse gases (mainly focusing on carbon dioxide) that can be released by each country per year. Such agreements would help to control the amount of greenhouse gases emitted, and it would aid in reducing the global warming effects. However, certain countries such as the United States of America refuse to be part of the Kyoto Protocol, as this would not benefit them. USA is responsible for the emission of approximately 25% of the world’s carbon dioxide, and if it signs the Kyoto Protocol, it would either have to pay a huge sum of money due to the large amount of carbon dioxide it emits or reduce the carbon dioxide emission rate, which would affect their economy greatly. If too many of such countries behave like USA, this would mean that global warming would be quite a big issue to worry about. If effects of global warming were to ruin the country, what economy is there to speak of in the first place?

The fact that a plan has been made to counter the global warming rate is a good sign, as it is now essential to take counter measures to prevent the effects of global warming from increasing too much in the near future.

Research has shown that there can be severe effects of global warming that will harm human well being, such as the increase of the sea level and extreme weather conditions. This will result in a great amount of environmental refugees as stated in the article. If the sea levels rise too much, some countries may even be completely submerged.

In the article, panel member John P. Holdren, director of Massachusetts' Woods Hole Research Center said that if the global temperature increased too much, "we would be in a regime where the danger of intolerable and unmanageable impacts on human well-being would rise very rapidly" In my opinion, many people are being very complacent about the issue of global warming, and in fact, they do not seem to notice that there is any change in the climate at all. Being unaware of this can result in dire consequences as the global warming effect is cumulative, and if we are going to wait until the effects are big enough for us to see and feel, it might be too late to try and implement any measures by then. Everyone should try to do his or her part to prevent any further damage done to the earth.

Global warming is an issue that is paid too little attention by people these days, and this has got to change in order for any significant difference to be made for the better of all mankind.

due to the fact that this is my English blog, no vulgarities shall be used

today we played against SJI, and we f-ing played like a bunch of losers, and because of that, we lost the game. the sji ruggers were bloody nothing, every single interval of 10 mins, you'll see SJI bodies lying on the ground, moaning and crying out of pain, we had the ball possession almost 80% of the time, but due to a few f-ed up errors, we let in two tries and lost with a score of 14-7

if we had tried our best, i have nothing to say. but the thing is, today, the entire team, so bloody screwed up every single little thing, that wasted so damn many chances. SJI has big ass fat forwards, then we were just so damn stupid to keep running at their forwards. there were so many drop balls all over the place, and so many mis-calculated passes. it is not any particular individuals fault, but it is the fault of the entire team. but at the same time, i so f-ing screwed up that it makes me question myself really, what the f is wrong with me.

IF ONLY I COULD HAVE GOTTEN THE DAMN BALL, i could have ran and scored, if only given the chance, i could have done much better and done much more for the team. but today, i couldnt do a shit, and when the opportunities came for me actually do something, the bloody ref screws it up. i passed their try line, and i placed the ball down, it was at the right corner, and after i placed the ball down, the f-ing side judge which was obviously from SJI, claimed that i f-ing stepped out with i didn't, and the ref DID NOT GIVE THE TRY. what the hell is wrong with him, cant he see with his own bloody eyes? i PLACED THE BALL DOWN ALREADY, and i DID NOT STEP OUT BEFORE THAT, that could have been a try for us. even though i can give all the excuses and say the ref is at fault, but if only i was more rugby-drilled, if only i had dived down into their try zone, the chance wouldnt be given for the ref to be biased. and because of that, i screwed up.

and after that, a try was let in on my side of the wing. there's nothing much i can say about it, other than the fact that i know very well that i could have done better. much better.

i've let the team down, again, and faisal subbed me out in the second half. if only i could have stayed, i can jolly well take the ball and run pass EVERY ONE OF THE OPPOSITION, they were NOTHING, their back line sucks totally, i only needed the chance to run. it was a bitter defeat, and a wake up call, our team need to work greatly on our communication. no one was listening to nobody else during the game, i screamed my throat out for an off-load/ an inside pass, and none came.

enough said about the game, there's nothing to be done now, we'll work hard for the next game, everyone need to work together as a team, and i definitely need to work harder myself. i can do much better than this, i am at a much higher level than this, and i know it, many people should know it too.

sometimes it really sets me thinking, i was once a national champion, a national record holder, and it has always been the life of a champion, a winner. and yet sometimes, it feels like i'm a total failure, i cannot accomplish anything. in the past, i totally do not accept being second, it's always aiming for the first, believing that i'm the best.

but what happens now?

have i lost my pride? have i lost my will to fight? where the hell was the determination i had when i was in pri school? this is not the way i'm suppose to be, what the heck is wrong with me man? is this what i want to be? just a normal RI mediocre student with a prefect's title? is it that i'm just any normal person on the street?

NO. that's not the life i want man, this is not the way how i'm meant to be, it's time to regain that pride and confidence, it's time to believe that i'm the best and nothing else, it is time to really buck up. this will be the final time i say it. it'll be all hard work from now on, it's time to get back to the top. time to fix things right.

as for the team, it's time to start working together REALLY as a team, we really need to nail everyone out there, show them what raffles is made off, and it's really time that raffles rugby should go back up to the top. no more screwing around guys. it's serious business now

today i will start with my first online article reflection on issues regarding teenagers

http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,4136,124164-1173045540,00.html?

My reflection

In this article, a play by the name of " Play Safe", which aims to promote safe sex to reduce the spread of HIV, is given a rating of NC-16. Three NTU students modified the play to allow it to be shown to all public by toning down on the usage of condoms in it and tweaked it such that the main message is abstinence. I feel that it is very unjustified to give such a rating because of "its emphasis on condom usage". Since it is proven that many teenagers nowadays are engaged in sex, it would be better for them to know about how to practice safe sex rather than try it unprotected.

From this article, we can already see certain statistical data about teenage sex, such as teenagers as young as 13 having lost their virginity, some getting pregnant and with only an unsatisfying more than half of the teenagers practicing abstinence. From these data, we can clearly conclude, the teenagers nowadays are indeed engaged very actively in sexual activities, much to the disapproval of the adults and the government. However, the way that the government is trying to prevent teenagers from having sex is not a good deterrent as this will only blind them from the dangers from sex.

As I am a teenager myself, I could very well understand how the mind of most teenagers work, adults have to accept the fact that this is the new and modern generation, with the influence of the western culture, teenagers nowadays are much more opened-minded compared to the times in the past. It is inevitable that there will always be teenagers who engage in sex, and it appears that the trend is increasing. Not too long ago, it was reported in the Newpaper that a girl got pregnant at the age of 9 after having frequent unprotected sex with her boyfriend of the same age. This should be a wake up call for the government that something should be done, and personally, I do not think that it is about restriction, but more of education. By restricted ratings, the government is indirectly shutting the teenagers from an essential form of education, and giving them more room for mistakes. In this case, “prevention” will only result in an increasing unawareness of the dangers of sex.

In a way, I believe the issue should be focused more on the prevention of unsafe sex, rather than preventing sex, even at teenage level. In fact, safe sex should be promoted and taught properly in sex education, rather than just focusing on abstinence, and attempting to prevent sex completely as it is proven by the statistics that this is not a good method.

Curiosity is one strong trait present in human kind, and the more you restrict teenagers, the more they would want to know and try. By addressing the dangers of sex, they would have an increased awareness instead of just thinking that pregnancy is the only thing they have to worry about. By educating them on sex, they will see the light and realize the detrimental consequences it can have. This would then act as a better deterrent than restrictions.
