Wanderers U23 Rugby Match

I just woke up. My whole body's hurting and aching from neck down, and especially my neck's feeling like it's gonna break. Then i remembered that i forgot to blog about the match yesterday. It was pretty good =) Even though it says U23, our team mainly consist of RI and RJC rugby guys, so we're more of a U18 team, while the other team are full of big ang moh dudes. Surprisingly, the ang moh dudes are just big, but they're not fast at all. So we totally overwhelmed them in terms of speed. But we still lost in the end coz all the big forwards of the opposition simply kept breaking through the middle, gaining 5 to 10m at a time, and we couldnt really stop them, so eventually they scored tries slowly but steadily, so we lost by about 2-3 tries in the end.

Personally i played quite well, scored one try somewhere halfway through the first half, after getting pass my opposite winger, their out center and full back. It was quite a nice try =) so i guess this is good start for my comeback into rugby, and i'll definitely get much better when next year comes. What was bad yesterday was my tackling, it's still weak, i tackled the big ang moh winger, and i almost had a concussion after landing head first. Even though i managed to bring him down as well, it was a really sucky tackle, that's why my neck's hurting =/ Also i need to work on my timing of runs, yesterday totally missed two other scoring oppurtunities because i overran the ball. all these comes with training, and i havent been training, but will be after eoys. Lastly my fitness sucks, cant last in a 40 per half rugby game, played about 60 mins and i was dying already, got to work on that too.

My resolve for rugby was set yesterday, that i will stay focused in every game, never back down no matter the opposition, never show that i am tired even if i am about to collapse, and play my best game of rugby every time i touch that ball.

I may have made a mistake somewhere last year and this year, but i wont make the same mistake twice next year.

AND i need to STUDY. This will be the last time i blog unless something really really important pops up. So see everyone in about 3 weeks time!

hello people. first attempt at finding out the source of the mysterious ring didnt work. Dixon thinks that i bought it in hongkong, but i think he remembered it wrongly, because i dont remember buying it in hongkong, all the bought for myself in hongkong is this bracelet:

(took the chance again to show off the 12 mega pixel camera and close up shot techniques =) )

dixon remember? i only bought this bracelet, didnt buy any ring. also, if i bought it way back in hongkong, why would it suddenly appear in my sports shorts pocket after like almost a year and i've never even seen it around the house?

and so, the mystery of the mysterious ring remains to be unsolved...

okay anyway, like i said in my last post, i am going into competitive muay thai. SOOO in order to get a better sense of what i'm getting myself into, as well as considering some of my alternatives, i did a small research on youtube of muay thai, against other styles of martial arts, enjoy...

Case study 1: Muay Thai VS Tae Kwon Do

Conclusion:
Okay in this very stupid video, muay thai got owned by TKD. However, look carefully, this is some stupid korean show, and korea is the place where TKD originated. So OBVIOUSLY they'll glorify the TKD fighter right? and how to they do that? simply by putting some dude who sucks at muay thai. Seriously, i think i am better than that muay thai dude up there. he knows nothing. Number one rule of muay thai: Never drop your guard, hands up protecting face ALL the time when you're not using them. look at the botak dude's hands, they're all over the place except where his face is. what a dumb shit. secondly, to fight TKD fighters, what a muay thai fighter should do is to close up the distance between them. Muay thai involves a lot of close range combat with knees, elbows and punches, combing them with speed and power, he'll totally kill the TKD guy. Obviously the botak dude doesnt know that, he stood at a far range, where it was perfect for the TKD guy to kick. If it is close range, all the TKD roundhouses and kick to the head cant even come up, so conclusion, this video doesnt count when judging which style is better, coz it is such a flawed and biased piece.

now let me show you a real muay thai vs TKD.

Case study 1a: Muay Thai VS Tae Kwon Do

Conclusion:
Now check that, both fighters are quite skilled, but the techniques of muay thai just prevails here. and TKD dude got owned most of the time. David, see this?

Muay thai is a better fighting style than TKD. If this isnt convincing enough, check this out.

Case study 1b: Muay Thai VS Tae Kwon Do

Conclusion:
i would say that the best hit the TKD guy got on the muay thai guy was falling on him. Note that both these two videos are scenes from actual competitions, and not some stupid korean tv show. so muay thai undoubtedly much stronger than TKD

Case study 2: Muay Thai VS Karate

Conclusion:
this video is quite lousy, sucky quality and no sound. you decide for yourself who is the better man, personally i still think that muay thai fighter is better, he was dominating the match! the variety of kicks and punches were interesting to watch.

Case study 3: Muay Thai VS Capoeira

Conclusion:
okay this is just a movie, so it isnt conclusive, but quite interesting to watch =) anyway what the dude did is not really muay thai, but more of muay boran, which is an older version of muay thai with more aerobatics, and yes the actor actually does that, so the show does have some authenticity in it. but still, it's just a movie.

Case study 4: Muay Thai VS Freestyle Kickboxing

Conclusion:
The muay thai one is the dude in white and blue shorts. again the muay thai fighter won, reasoning being muay thai kicks are just really powerful, and combination with punches it's just a great standing fighting style.

Case study 5: Muay Thai VS China Kung Fu (Sanshou)

Conclusion:
Okay, after watching this video, i realised china kung fu is still the best. For those for dont understand the chinese commentating, basically the Sanshou style is very similar to muay thai in the use of body parts, you are allowed to use all four limbs, including elbow and knee. But one unique side of Sanshou is that you are allowed grapple and throw moves to sling the opponent around. So what the china kung fu dude did was to try to keep the range between himself and the thai fighter (to prevent powerful thai elbow strikes) by using his straight leg kicks, and at the same time control the timing of his throw moves to gain the edge during the fight. as you can see, the muay thai dude isnt really trained to handle those kind of throw moves, so he lost a lot on that. The china guy's some king of fighter in his arena, and so is the thai dude, this was indeed an exciting match to watch. Kung Fu rocks, but it's too hardcore, i'll just stick to muay thai =)

there are actually still many fighting styles out there, i'll post more another time when i feel like it. shall go off now, bye!

yoyoyo ppls, how's life?

today's a pretty good day, i've had the last day of my beatbox module, and i can could beatbox! well, at least the simplest of beats for like a minute or so. which isnt too bad, considering how i've gone for 3/4 lessons. ONE DAY, i'll master and perfect the art of beatboxing and beatbox for fun =) (wait long long)

many people believes that beatboxing is some natural talent that special people possess since birth (like psychic power), that is however definitely not true, because many people become pro beatboxers through years of practising to get those perfect sounds, one living example would be our beatbox instructor beatboxer Stitch, or actual name Charles Wong, he's the number one or two beatboxer in singapore. and he's cool, and nice, and easy to approach. and another one would be the future me, long long time down the road =)

okay so yesterday, i went for muay thai. it sucked though, i was damn tired from the day of school, so i went there and almost got killed. not by my opponent (there werent sparring sessions yesterday), but by the pad work. my fitness totally sucks, and i was struggling for air since about 45 mins into the training.

Conclusions:
1. School is tiring.
2. I need to train my fitness (after eoys)

and i almost forgot to mention, i went for muay thai yesterday instead of saturday because i've got a rugby game tomorrow. for the rugby club wanderers. It's like a U23 game, so... let's hope i dont break my neck it's fun!

anyway, i am actually considering going pro for muay thai as a competitive sport next year, it's pretty cool, getting into legalised fights to knock someone out, and train my body to the max. Muay thai is really good as it develops superb cardio-vascular endurance with a cool fighting style, eventually i hope to move into mixed martial arts, which is more freestyle, involving grapple and submission moves, which are definitely much more interesting, and challenging.

and i need to watch my weight.

Weight divisions

Category Weight (up to)
Super Heavyweight 209 lb+ (95 kg+)
Heavyweight 190 lb+ (86 kg+)
Cruiserweight 190 lb (86 kg)
Light Heavyweight 175 lb (79 kg)
Super Middleweight 168 lb (76 kg)
Middleweight 160 lb (73 kg)
Junior Middleweight 154 lb (70 kg)
Welterweight 147 lb (67 kg)
Junior Welterweight 140 lb (64 kg)
Lightweight 135 lb (61 kg)
Junior Lightweight 130 lb (59 kg)
Featherweight 126 lb (57 kg)
Junior Featherweight 122 lb (55 kg)
Bantamweight 118 lb (54 kg)
Junior Bantamweight 115 lb (52 kg)
Flyweight 112 lb (51 kg)
Junior Flyweight 108 lb (49 kg)
Mini Flyweight 105 lb (48 kg)

i hope to stay in the junior middleweight or middleweight category, so even if i lose, i wont get killed by the super strong and muscular guys. and truthfully speaking, i was very much inspired to pick up fighting as a sport from the movie never backdown. Go check it out =) cool stuff.

All above info are from wikipedia.

and lastly, something weird happened yesterday. i found a silver ring in my sports shorts pocket right before the muay thai training, and it looks like this:

(taken the chance to show off my photography skill with a 12 megapixel cam^^)

it is weird because i do not remember having such a ring ever before and i have NO IDEA where it came from. it is even weirder that it happens to be in the pair of sports shorts i wear only to muay thai and tennis every week. So if this ring belongs to anyone, kindly enlighten me and i'll return it to you, might have accidentally taken it somehow, or if this is some suprise gift you sneakily placed into my pocket, at least let me know who you are =) OR if you have given me this ring some time back, i am really sorry that i forgot about it, just remind me again when you gave it to me.

oh and it's a nice ring that fits exactly into my finger, yet i am certain that i didnt buy it, miraculous appearance of a mysterious ring, maybe it has magical powers, you never know right? i'll try to figure that out. =)

okay that's the end, i'll go study now.

countdown to first paper of eoys: 14 days.

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

wahhh man, i feel like a shithead, i need to study. EXAM IS IN ABOUT 17 DAYS MAN, WTH, I NEED TO STUDY ALREADY.

okay anyway, went little india today. DAMN it was boring =/

some shop was selling this thing called "Natural Yogurt". Me being a fan of yogurts, so i wanted to buy it and try it coz it sounds good. so i went to the counter and paid for it.

Dixon, "wth is natural yogurt? what's the difference between this and not natural yogurt?"

Me, " heck lah, just eat."

then i opened this hard plastic covering, which under it was another layer of plastic foil covering, you know like bubble tea, so i asked the uncle, "isnt there a spoon somewhere?"

uncle looks at me in a weird manner, smiles and said, "sdnfskjdhfkas (me and dixon both missed this part, so we couldnt hear what he said)... , but if you want to eat like that also up to you."

so i gave him a puzzled look, "ehh, so we're not suppose to eat it out of the cup?"

*uncle looks at me and shakes head*

i ended up buying a bottle of 7-up that cost the same price. DAMN.

so later on in the bus, we were still very puzzled over this yogurt thing. so i asked dixon, "dude so how do we eat a natural yogurt?"

dixon, "dont know, he said something like you have to eat with fruits... or something like that."

...

now can someone tell me what the heck is an indian natural yogurt suppose to be? what's the different between that and the marigold yogurt you find in the super market?

Moral of the story: Not all yogurts are edible off the packaging.

I NEED TO STUDY.

today i saw a girl with blue hair. not the entire hair dyed blue, but more like high lights, damn nice.

i want to dye my hair too. and get a tattoo =(

today is an awesome day!

3 things happened (good things always happen in 3s, so does bad things, some how most things people like to list and talk about happens in 3s, 3 is a magical number)

muay thai- very very good workout today. trained with this adult person because my usual partner disappeared today. later found out that he's some fitness trainer, my gosh his kicks are super powerful, even though i was holding this 10 cm think pad for him to kick, the impact of the hit was so great that my arms were hurting =/ and that's precisely why it was good, because i know he's pro, and thus i went all out also. then it appeared i wasnt much lousier than him, so both of us had a really good session. sadly though, he usually only goes for the tuesday session, today was one random day he happened to be there. (ps: my punches were harder than his)

brought my bro to the library- for those who know about my little brother, you'll know that usually, i dont talk to him much =/ huge generation/age gap of 11 years old, we cant really relate. however, one fateful day (yesterday) i scolded him for stealing my ben and jerry's One Cheese Cake Brownie Ice Cream (heavenly stuff), then i felt bad. so i decided to make up for it by bringing him to the library, and it turned out to be pretty good. he was happy. i was boredhappy. it was quite a fulfilling brothership bonding experience =) brought him to arcade and macs after lib.

ICE SKATING- holy shit, first time i went skating in about ... i forgot how long, but damn long. so it was totally superb. charlie randomly smsed me "you want to go ice skating later" and i was like, "it's ON". so i went ice skating. if you can skate fast, the feeling of the cold chilling wind brushing past your cheeks and it's like you're cutting through air because it basically feels like your clothes, are full of holes, and the cool air is piercing through them. it's a really good feeling, makes you feel super fresh.

so i'm happy =)

btw, charlie can drive pretty well for a 16-year-old.

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

today was some beatbox fun man, check this out:

we were shown this video during the beatbox module, it's damn cool. but beatboxing is quite difficult, not sure if i can master it... HMM

and i decided to go school tomorrow =)

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

yoyoyo people, a new photographer's in town, check it.

i was lazy to caption anything, so yeah, the pictures are more or less meaningless, they just look cool, dont they?

went for photography course today, i came up with a conclusion, photographers are really boring people, they go around taking pictures of what you and me see everyday, then somehow they try to make it look different and important by taking it from what they would call a different "perspective" using a variety of weird techniques. i mean dude, just set the damn camera on auto and click and there, you got your picture. =) why the hell do people want to be extra and do so much nonsense?

that pretty sums up my impression of photography after one session, it is boring, yet cool. the irony of a photographer.

the next session we're gonna go little india for field trip and take photos. dont ask me why little india, i know it's boring, i have no idea why they cant think of a better place in singapore. this further supports my first point of photographers being really boring people. just have to wait and see.

tomorrow is the first and only day of the week that i need to wake up at normal school hours, because i have a chemistry module in a first block =/ thurs and fri i'm not going school, because there are only one session per day for chem and chinese modules, and you can afford to pon one session per module without failing it, therefore, there's really no point in me going school for either of those days. i learn nothing, especially in chinese, and i'll spend double the time travelling back and forth than actually sitting in the classroom. conclusion: studying time at home!

I NEED TO STUDY.

Monday, September 15, 2008

i am too damn lazy to blog, damn.

anyway, lawis just drew this on msn convo...
people always tend to imagine what they do not have and cannot obtain, especially when they lay it out in black and white, hmmm....

school is so damn slack, i only needed to go today at 9.30, and left at like 1.30, tmr only need to go at 11.30, but can only leave at 6.30 =(

slacking/studying period man. must do less slacking and more studying. damn.

Thursday, September 11, 2008

today is a rather interesting day. now why is that so?

1. we played against some class tennis during PE , coz there isnt enough courts, and we won flat down, only drew one or two matches, winning all the rest, that's about 8 or 10 games altogether? awesome stuff, my class is tennis pro. and i didnt bring my racket, used the school's lousy shitass racket that would have probably cost about 10 bucks each with an ugly frame, small handle and crappy factory strings. the small handle actually played a part when the racket flew a thousand miles off my hands during a serve, danger danger. But i decided that a true master does not blame his tools, so went on winning my games anyway. =)

2. we watched CHIKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL during CLE. it was interesting... not. a bit gay and cliche and emo and weird. that's about it. dont watch it or read it unless you're gay, or emo, or just feeling emo when you're not really emo, or a girl.

3. bio was awesome. 30/35 for cct, 22/26 for immulogy quiz plus portfolio. this is a satisfying grade after a long line of failing grades over a long period of time. so yeah, i'm happy. =)

4. THEN it comes to chemistry, which was some totally awesome stuff.

Incident one:

When Mr CHONG HAN GUAN stepped into class, everyone laughed. why? because everyone laughs all the time when he steps into class that we forget why we laugh, it's just funny. then, he himself laughed. and we laughed somemore.

when the laughing has stopped, pranav went up to him, and somehow they started talking about push ups. so here goes pranav:

"Sir, i bet i can do 10 push up with you sitting on my back ah!"

Mr Chong, " You wanna try???"

the result...
pranav attempts to do push up with Mr Chong on his back...

... and he fails miserably

Pranav, " wah lao sir, i never knew you were so HEAVY!"

Mr Chong, " HAHA, of course, i was once an ammature SUMO wrestler!" Me : (=.=")

whole class, "HAHAHAHAHA."

Incident two:

Mr Chong then moves on going through the mock EOY paper, he was going at this really fast pace that most normal, handsome, cool and sensible people like myself were unable to keep up. Being a very observant Mr Chong, he notices the noise shouting at him saying "Sir you're going to fast!", he asked, "am i going to fast for all of youuuu?"

Jeremy Tan, the dude who got 35/35 for his bio cct, the one who knows them all, the one who was able to keep up, the one who sits in front of the class room, the one who has a gayish looking baby cartoon angel attached to his blue bag, happily replied, " No sir, not at all, this is very good."

Whole class made noise... i shouted at jeremy, "Wah lao jeremy, dont try to act smart lah! be considerate!"

Almost instantenously, Mr Chong turned and pointed at me, and said, "SHUT UP! Dont you insult the SMARTEST GUY in class! He is the SMARTEST! ... ... If you insult yanwei then it's okay."

Yanwei looked with half-asleep eyes, waved, and smiled at Mr Chong.

I shut up.

Yeah so that's about it, school aint that bad afterall. anyway, due to an unforeseen circumstance, and to my deepest regret, i will have to CHANGE my plan of studying all the way until EOYs and go for every training starting from tomorrow =(

WHY??

because Mr Romi came up to me and told me today that i do not have enough attendance to make 75% and it's gonna erase all my CCA records. i was like, WTH MAN WTH, rugby is screwed up, we trained so hard last year, before season, and during season, my attendance were well over 90%, then when season ended, i decided it's time to work on my studies so my grades wont suffer. sensible AND reasonable right? now they threaten to erase all my CCA record that i've worked so damn hard for for the past so many years, what a screwed up system... =.= anyway i'll be going training from now on, and hope my attendance goes above 75%, otherwise i'll appeal and complain until i can get it back up. =) Besides, it's IMPOSSIBLE that my attendance is actually below 75%, there were SO MANY trainings that i went for which Romi didnt take attendance, then suddenly he started taking attendance this week, which i happen to be studying and doing projects, and my attendance like that. what the heck man.

also, despite thinking that i shouldnt join rugby next year, i am seriously considering that option again. mainly because i feel that my rugby days arent over yet, and the fact that i cant think of anything else to join also plays a part. Of course, who those who heard me talking about the, the AWESOME white adidas full upper body X bend tights, SO DAMN NICE. i want to wear that. Only sport i can think of that allows me to wear it, rugby.

that's all for now. SEE YA.

PS: i had a whole tub of very berry ice cream from island creamery to eat today. So damn awesome.

"you're the humour of my life."

my math test got 19/30! sucks leh, and i kind of studied for this test, but made a couple of careless mistakes, and it's really easy to lose a lot of marks for no reason, not very good =/ MATH IS PULLING MY GPA DOWN DOWN DOWN...

nvm, all i'll have to do is to score full marks for EOYs (quote joel kek). MUST start mugging now already. in fact, i'll go mug right after i close this blogging window. yeah.

okay anyway, for those who know me right, once in a while you'll know that i come up with great theories about certain stuff, like where humans come from, and what do we live for, how is life like and so on and so forth.

So today, i'll post one of my most recent theories, regarding the rich and poor.

this was inspired by a smiley uncle cleaning up at jurong point food court. It set me wondering, is money essential for people to be happy? are the rich always happier than the poor? then after thinking for a while, I've reached this theory, that life is nothing more than just a journey, and happiness is nothing more than just a state of mind. When you begin life, you have nothing. As your life comes to an end, you're left with nothing. So in another words, it's just like going through a journey, without actually gaining any physical things, but rather, it's more about how the experience and how you've lived your life. In another words, living a rich or poor life really doesn't matter, because after all it is just two paths of a similar journey. If you can live a poor life happily and with fulfillment, why bother about the riches? The poor has troubles of the poor, and the rich having troubles of the rich as well. Many rich families experience family problems and issues, as well as emotional and psychological stress.

Let us use an analogy, two people who has never gone into a theme park before walks into a theme park, one takes a roller coaster, another one takes a bumper car because roller coaster too long queue. In the end, the bumper car guy do not know what a roller coaster feels like, but he knows that many people wants to go for the roller coaster ride. For both of them, their experience is different, they can either go home happy or sad, DEPENDING on their mindset. IF the bumper car guy insist on thinking that, SHIT i didnt get to sit the roller coaster, he'll forever be miserable for the rest of his life until he gets to sit in a roller coaster someday. However if he can change his mindset and find joy in sitting the bumper car, he would have had a fulfilling experience at the theme park and leave happily without regrets.

So in conclusion, forget about aiming to be the best and striving to be the best all the time. Just enjoy what you're doing and treasure your time doing it. Generally through my experience if you're happy doing something, chances are that you'll do better than the rest. Take a step back and indulge in your own journey, and do not envy what others have because you have no idea what kind of journey they're going through. Do not be confined by the requirements of the world of what success is, but search in your heart to live a life with no regrets =)

okay that's just my two cents worth of opinion, will post more regarding like a variety of things in the future.

Something interesting happened in school today. During math. Mr Kwa, the math teacher, walked in front of the class, and gave us his saggy, goldfish-like smile, and looked around, surveying the class. Out of nowhere, he said "you know, i heard students watches pornography in class during lesson time."

Then there was silence in the classroom. Everyone stoned for 1 second. *1 second passes* "HAHAHAHAHAHA" coming from Pranav, i joined in, thomas turned to me and said a certain individual's name whom i know of, then both of us started laughing too.

Mr Kwa looking stunned at our reaction, then he added " really you know, i heard from other teachers, they watch pornography on their handphones. but i think this class doesnt have lah"

even more laughters...

anyway, what kind of loser watches porn on handphones? in class somemore, the screen so tiny and no sound... okay nvm =)

okay that's about it, shall go study now, BYE.

PS: i did close to 200 push ups today, lost count...

haha, some wondered why i use this blogskin. let's just say that an old acquaintance of mine recommended this blogskin for me, coz the previous was too emo. so i thought okay sure, i'll try it out. yeah that's how my blog ended up looking how it looks like now. =) nice right?

watched bangkok dangerous today. screw the newspaper reviews and those critics, they have no life. bangkok dangerous was such an awesome show. there were much anticipation, sufficient action, good moral of the story, touching scenes, contains a deep and sophisticate love story, emotionally expressive, nicholas cage looks angsty, reasonably well developed plot. all in all, a movie definitely worth watching. And after watching the show, i've came to a conclusion. "Girls are of bad influence to a guy". Go watch the show and you'll know why. If you dont wanna watch the show and still wanna know why, ask me on msn and i'll convince you.

okay anyway, today i decided something. out of nowhere, for no particular reason.

i swear on my honour, dignity, pride, and all the principles in the world add together, that i will never use a valgurity to the ones i love/care about ever again.

also, i've decided that in order to become a better man, i'll stop using vulgarities. If i ever use vulgarity for no particular justifiable reason at all (getting pissed off is a justifiable reason), i will do 20 push ups for every vulgarity i've used, no matter where i am, what i'm wearing, what event is happening and whatsoever, that is provided if doing that 20 push ups wouldnt get me into any kind of serious trouble.

settled. =) goodnight!

PS: i am so drained and so super tired. what an eventful day it has been. =)

today was one hell of a hilarious day.

did CLE project on STRESS MANAGEMENT, it went quite well, finished it already. only that we kind of realised, the paper says " you can do it in either photoshop or powerpoint and send a soft copy to your teacher.", after we've completed it on a hard plastic-like board. let's hope it is fine that way too.

then went to play pool with thomas. no comments, it was just pool.

came back home and took a short nap. funny thing occured. mengsiew called me at around 4+,5, and made a loud noise in the phone " YOU KNOW HOW TO GO TO MERIDIEN? i came out from somerset and I FORGOT HOW TO GO TO MERIDIEN!" i laughed myself awake. =)

after that it was some funny odd and weird dinner thing at american club behind lido, the fish and chips was good.

once in a while i'll think of you, then i decided it's best that i dont think of you anymore. the sense of regret lingers within the boundaries of my mind. Even though it hurts, and i wonder at the sanity of my decisions. Sometimes i even consider going back and make everything back to what they used to be. but it all seems better this way. you seem much happier now than before.
